Do you remember the times when a flashing cursor was the main channel of communication with a computer? Since that time a human - computer interaction has changed dramatically, but together with technological development the user’s expectations increase as well. Therefore, designing an interface requires a lot of time and attention.

How is an interaction design created?

Graphic design vs interaction design

Graphic design is created on the basis of a wireframes.

A starting point is the analysis of the users’ needs. We gather all the requirements and specify which of them should be given priority. All information is divided into categories and we create information architecture that corresponds to categories defined by the users. At the same time we analyze the users’ paths while creating the usage scripts. After that we start creating drafts. A pencil and a piece of paper are indispensable tools at this stage. While drafting we create different suggestions and choose the one that relates best to the intended aims. The second stage is making wireframes in the form of pictures or clickable prototypes. At this stage we test the prototype together and wonder whether it will serve the users well. If yes, we make some final modifications and create specification needed for the project implementation.

What is the difference between an interaction project and a graphic design?

An interaction project in the form of wireframes allows us to define a layout and functioning of a website. Its aim is also to define the relation between different elements (headlines, graphic elements, forms, navigation). A graphic design, which is created on the basis of a wireframe, is a traditional layout that determines the outlook of the interface. It is what the user sees when visiting a website.

What is the result of our work?

Information architecture

Additionally we prepare a structure of information architecture in the form of a navigation tree

As a result of working on an interaction design, some documents are created specifying the layout and functioning of a website. The basic results are wireframes - at least one for each kind of a page. These frames are in the form of a simple document or a HTML clickable prototype. Additionally we prepare a structure of information architecture in the form of a navigation tree. The third element is a functional specification - a document that describes the functioning and content of each frame. This set helps to move to creating a graphic design and constitutes essential information for the group of programmers who implement a solution.
